Are we witnessing another Swiftboating?

Four years ago we looked as an election, that we should have won, was taken away from us.
Again we are reading from the left media (blogs, Olberman etc.) reassurances that American people will look beyond this.

We didn't lose because of the silly swiftboat ads, but rather because of the Kerry is the Terrorists candidate (Cheney & co.)

We will be losing again because we let them associate Obama with "terrorists", a few college students planting explosives here and there.

We have to call Keating and friends "terrorists" too and fight back.

Re: Are we witnessing another Swiftboating (none / 0)

Four reasons why not.

First, Obama has been responding immediately and publicly.

Second, these charges were raised months ago. People already know about them.

Third, the media is expecting it. Instead of talking about any ties to Ayers, the story becomes that the McCain campaign is going almost exclusively negative.

Fourth, the Swiftboat attacks were done in August, just like the Willie Horton ads. And for good reason. The only way they work is if the candidate has not been fully defined in the mind of the public. The idea is to create a narrative that the media will then follow. That narrative has long been established and the public is well-acquainted with Obama. So this is just telling people that they have been wrong, and nobody likes that.

The fourth one is the most important (none / 0)

Doing this in early October looks like a desperate tactic from a losing campaign, and that comes out really obvious to many people.

But there is something even bigger, the economy.  When you have really big issues and problems like this sinking economy, trashy smears tend not to work all that well.

Re: Are we witnessing another Swiftboating (none / 0)

Here is what lost us the election
"A November win by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry would put the United States at risk of another "devastating" terrorist attack"

Kerry reponse "Dick Cheney's scare tactics crossed the line."

fast forward 4 years
"David Axelrod said that Obama was unfamiliar with Ayres background when he first met with him in 1995"

Or as a con blog writes
"Axelrod's comment makes Ayres relevant (Vanity) "

Re: Are we witnessing another Swiftboating (none / 0)

umm, 4 years ago we also had a complicit media. we no longer do. 4 years ago we had a populace held under the sway of a fear-mongering president. today we no longer do. 4 years ago our candidate was in the public finance system so was hording his money rather than hitting back. we no longer do. you gotta look at the big picture here.

Seems a lot of posters coming out of the woodwork (2.00 / 2)

Wow, dude, I am looking through your history for ONE positive comment about Obama?

Nothing so far...

Could be the trolls spreading a little Ayers concern?  I wonder.....

Re: Are we witnessing another Swiftboating (none / 0)

Silly, I hated Kerry in the primaries too, does it mean that I wanted Bush for four more years?

Today I don't want Bush for four more years either, no matter who I voted for in the primaries.

Really? (2.00 / 2)

Did you miss the THIRTEEN MINUTE nastygram they released today, that's getting so many hits its bogging down YouTube?

How about Gibbs (I love Gibbs) taking on Fox and Friends head-on?

I'm missing how you think he's not hitting back. Can you elaborate?

Re: Really? (none / 0)

I haven't noticed it was only 13 minutes, as I watched it 5 times and I loved it, but until this gets delivered to peoples' TV sets, they will not know about it.

They will know about it (2.00 / 1)

It's all over the cable channels.

You can't just wave your hands and say "fight back!". There's a way to do it, and a way not to do it.

Calling Keating a "terrorist", as you advocate in the diary, is completely unsupported by any evidence, and can't even be established by innuendo. It's almost a non-sequitor.

Don't you think we'd look pretty stupid going with something like that? Obama is doing a good job so far, and at least from what you've suggested here, I think he has a better plan.

SWIFTBOAT!!! WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!! (2.00 / 2)

Wow, come on, Axelrod isn't one of those pansies that ran Kerry's campaign.

If McCain wants a bonfire, he will be MORE then happy to trade Molotov Cocktails with him...

Wow, Sarah Palin, those rallies, they are calling Obama a terrorist!!

Oh for goodness sake, it's the same dumb ass crackers they always run out...

We got them outnumbered.

While Palin is doing the freakshow, Axelrod is going to run shuttle buses from every university
in in every red and purple state.

Could we lose.

Sure.

Are we going down with out a fight.

HELL NO!

Have some cajones for a change Democrats, you might find you like it.

Re: SWIFTBOAT!!! WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!! (2.00 / 1)

Palin's only doing herself in with all this crap. The more she attacks, the more she opens herself up to withering attacks on her policies and character. Attacks, for instance, on her unpaid taxes. Or on the upcoming decision regarding Troopergate.

Pansies (2.00 / 1)

Very little makes me happier than seeing Bob Shrum and Donna Brazille hanging around TV studios, reduced to talking heads and separated from important decisionmaking.

Re: Are we witnessing another Swiftboating? (none / 0)

One word.

Dollars.

We have them and McCain doesn't. The bulk of his campagining nowadays is throwing crap at the media and hoping they report it as news.
MSNBC and CNN won't have it this year, and Fox is turning into a 100% negative spin machine....

Dollars are not enough! (none / 0)

The McCain team has the single loaded word to ensure a win.  Looking at the video I'm nearly as worried as this diarist!
